Tour Overview

Rhinos at dawn, waterfalls by day, folk dances by night

This seven-day loop through Assam and Meghalaya opens in Kaziranga National Park, home to the one-horned rhinoceros, with a jeep safari, an optional elephant ride, and a hands-on local cooking session or a guided hike into the Karbi Anglong hills. From there it’s on to Shillong, the ‘Scotland of the East’, for a full day chasing Cherrapunjee’s waterfalls and limestone caves, a visit to Mawlynnong’s famous living root bridge, and a boat ride on the crystal-clear Umngot River at Dawki, right at the Indo-Bangladesh border. The trip closes in Guwahati with the Maa Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Island, and an optional sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra. Throughout, an English-speaking guide and a traditional Assamese welcome are included, along with daily breakfast and dinner so the only real decision each day is which local dish to try next.

Before You Go

Pack smart, travel easy

Layers Shillong and Cherrapunjee turn cold after dark, carry a heavy woollen or layered jacket. Kaziranga and Guwahati stay warmer as plains, so lighter clothing works there. Days reach up to 15°C, dropping toward 2°C at night in the hills.
Footwear Comfortable, grippy walking shoes for the jeep safari, waterfall viewpoints, cave paths and the living root bridge at Mawlynnong. Sandals are fine at the hotel; heels aren't practical on this route.
ID Proof Carry your original Aadhaar or Voter ID, useful for hotel check-ins and entries across the itinerary.
Sun & Bright Mornings Sunscreen is worth packing even on cloudy days, along with sunglasses and a cap for the safari and outdoor sightseeing.
Medical Kit Carry any regular medication for travel-related issues, plus basics for the road. Nothing altitude-related here since this route stays largely at plains and plateau level.
On the Road Mobile network (Airtel/Vodafone) can get weak or drop out in parts of Meghalaya. If a good restaurant isn't on the way between stops, small stalls are available almost everywhere, but carrying some dry snacks isn't a bad idea.
  • Hotel are not at par with pan India. And due to the covid situation, there was cut down of staffs in many of the hotels.. So sometimes, room service get late than required.
  • Being family destination, all hotels may not have twin beds.
  • Roads are hilly so it take times from point A to point B. People from plains might find it bit tiring. And if somebody has a problem with nausea.. They can opt for medicine (anti vomit) while travelling.
  • Sometimes Due to weather, sightseeing may affect but we will try our best to cover all mentioned places..
  • There are very few solely vegetarian hotels in Northeast. Please speak to your tour leader regarding the choice of meal.
  • Here sunset is early at around 4.30pm. All the sightseeing must be completed before it.
