Tour Overview

A misty Himalayan ridge, tea gardens, and a sunrise worth waking for

Darjeeling sits at 2,042 metres on a spur of the Himalayas, wrapped in cloud and the fragrance of first-flush tea. In four unhurried days you will ride the UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train), watch dawn paint Kanchenjunga gold from Tiger Hill, stroll Chowrasta’s Victorian promenade, and day-trip to the serene lakeside town of Mirik. Every transfer, every hotel night, and every breakfast and dinner is handled — so your only job is to look out the window.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Follow the route

D1 ~2,042 m
D1 · Arrival — NJP / IXB → Darjeeling 95 km · 3 hrs

Your driver meets you at New Jalpaiguri railway station or Bagdogra Airport. The mountain road winds up through tea gardens and dense forest — keep your camera ready. Check in at your 4★ hotel, freshen up, and head to Chowrasta for an evening stroll. Mall Road is lined with Tibetan craft shops; grab a hot cup of first-flush Darjeeling tea before dinner.

Overnight: Darjeeling Dinner
D2 2,560 m (Tiger Hill)
D2 · Darjeeling Full-Day Sightseeing Full day

Wake before dawn for the short drive to Tiger Hill (2,590 m). The sunrise over Kanchenjunga is one of India's great spectacles. Return via Ghoom Monastery — the oldest Tibetan Buddhist gompa in the region — and the Batasia Loop, a spiral railway curve with a Gurkha war memorial at its heart. Afternoon: the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and P.N. Zoological Park (closed Thursdays). End the day with the UNESCO Toy Train joyride through the heart of Darjeeling town.

Overnight: Darjeeling Breakfast, Dinner
D3 ~1,767 m (Mirik)
D3 · Mirik Day Excursion Day trip · ~49 km each way

A one-hour drive through cardamom and orange orchards brings you to Mirik, a quiet hill town centred on Sumendu Lake. Hire a boat, walk the Pashupati Market for local handicrafts, and take in long views across the valley to the Nepal hills. Return to Darjeeling by late afternoon for a final evening at leisure — the perfect moment to pick up premium tea at one of the plantation shops.

Overnight: Darjeeling Breakfast, Dinner
D4 Departure
D4 · Departure — Darjeeling → NJP / IXB 95 km · 3 hrs

After breakfast, check out and enjoy a final look at the mountains before your driver takes you back to New Jalpaiguri or Bagdogra. Allow at least 4 hours ahead of your train or flight departure to account for hill-road traffic.

Before You Go

Pack smart, travel easy

Layers Darjeeling mornings drop to 8–12 °C even in summer. Pack a fleece, a light waterproof jacket, and a warm layer for Tiger Hill (pre-dawn, 4 °C in winter).
Footwear Comfortable walking shoes with grip — cobblestone lanes and forest paths are the norm. Sandals for the hotel; no need for trekking boots on this itinerary.
ID Proof Carry original Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport. Some hotel check-ins and Tiger Hill viewpoint entry may require photo ID.
Sun & Bright Mornings High-altitude UV is intense even on cloudy days. Bring SPF 50 sunscreen, UV-protection sunglasses, and a hat or cap.
Medical Kit Altitude rarely causes problems at 2,000 m, but carry personal medications, a basic first-aid kit, and electrolyte sachets if you are prone to dehydration.
On the Road Hill roads have sharp bends. If you are prone to motion sickness, take medication 30 minutes before the journey. Carry cash — ATMs are available in Darjeeling town but can run out on long weekends.
  • Hill road driving times (NJP ↔ Darjeeling) are 3–4 hours under normal conditions; allow extra time during monsoon (June–September) due to landslide risk.
  • Sunset in Darjeeling is around 4:30 pm in winter and 6:00 pm in summer — plan sightseeing accordingly.
  • Hotel room standards may vary slightly across properties; base-category rooms are well-appointed but may not have a mountain view unless specifically requested at the time of booking.
  • Twin-bed or double-bed preference should be communicated at booking; subject to hotel availability at check-in.
  • Weather in the mountains is unpredictable — Tiger Hill sunrise views are subject to cloud cover; no refund or compensation for weather-related cancellations of specific activities.
  • Bottled water is provided during transfers; carry a refillable bottle for walks. Tap water in Darjeeling is not recommended for drinking.
Questions

Frequently asked

Is the Toy Train ride included in the package? +
Yes — one shared Toy Train joyride (approx. 45 minutes on the UNESCO Darjeeling Himalayan Railway) is included for the couple. Charter rides or full Ghoom section rides can be added on request at extra cost.
When is the best time to visit Darjeeling? +
March to May (spring) offers clear skies and the famous first-flush tea harvest. October and November (autumn) are equally brilliant — cool, dry, and perfect for mountain views. June to September is monsoon season; the hills are lush and green but fog often covers the peaks.
How hard is this trip physically? +
Very easy. All transfers are by private vehicle; sightseeing involves short walks (15–30 minutes) on mostly paved surfaces. No trekking or strenuous activity is required. Suitable for all age groups including seniors.
What ID documents do I need to carry? +
A valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport) for each traveller is required for hotel check-in. Foreign nationals must carry their Passport and valid Indian visa.
What type of vehicle is used for transfers? +
A private Non-AC Wagon R (or equivalent hatchback) is used for the couple. The mountain roads are narrow and winding — Wagon Rs are ideal for the terrain. If you prefer an AC SUV, an upgrade can be arranged at extra cost.
Can the sightseeing order change? +
Yes. The itinerary is a suggested plan; your driver and our ground team will adjust the order based on weather, road conditions, and your preferences. We will always try to ensure Tiger Hill sunrise falls on Day 2 as planned.
